Gardening Unit Study
🌿 Grace Academy Curriculum
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We’re excited to dig into something wonderful this week—our Gardening & Plant Life Cycle Unit! Through this hands-on science and nature experience, your child will explore how plants grow from tiny seeds into beautiful, thriving life.
What We’re Learning:
Throughout the week, students will:
Investigate the plant life cycle (seed, germination, seedling, adult plant, flowering, and seed production)
Observe and record data about soil composition
Discover the important role of bees and pollination
Identify and use real gardening tools
Participate in a pollination simulation
Grow their own small plant and track its development
A Special Focus on Bees:
We’ll take a closer look at how bees help pollinate plants and why this process is essential for our food and flowers. Through a fun simulation, students will act as bees to "pollinate" flowers in the classroom!
Science Skills in Action:
Your child will be keeping a Soil Sample Observation Lab Notebook where they will:
Examine different soil types
Make scientific drawings
Record findings and make predictions
Faith Connection:
We will reflect on how God designed the earth with purpose and beauty. Verses like Isaiah 55:10-11 and Proverbs 16:24 will help us connect our lessons in science to God’s word.
How You Can Help at Home:
Talk to your child about what they’re observing and growing.
Let them help with watering plants at home or in your garden.
Read books together about plants, flowers, or bees (The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle is a great one!).
Encourage them to keep a nature journal or draw pictures of plants they see outdoors.
Thank you for your continued support in your child’s learning journey. We can’t wait to watch our little gardeners grow in knowledge and wonder this week!
Warmly,
Crystal Vazquez
